The short answer is bandwidth. The internet is like a water pipe, it can only handle so much flow. With the current Covid-19 pandemic stranding most people at home, the worldwide internet is near its capacity with everyone on Netflix, youtube, and streaming their TV shows and games. This will lead to bandwidth issues which causes the video and audio breakups. If the "pipe" to your house is a small one (i.e. copper telephone or cable line), you will experience more troubles than someone with a larger "pipe" (i.e. fiber optic cable). No one is immune however, so the following suggestions can improve performance:
1) Use a standard internet browser between all users, and make sure your Java plug-in is the most current. Google Chrome is the preferred browser 2) Use a cabled network connection, or 5G wifi. Users trying wireless connections on slow wifi routers will experience more problems 3) Disconnect all devices from your home network as possible. Don't let others on your connection stream video, or your phone download its updates. Don't let others in the household play their online games while your trying to join a conference. 4) Make sure your internet provider is providing you the fastest speed possible. There are different plans and speeds, make sure your on the fastest. 5) Upgrade your computer to maximize performance if possible. Older computers with antique video cards, full hard drives, or insufficient RAM memory will perform slower. Can't afford a new computer? Try Adding RAM, clearing disk space, and increasing the Cache.
